We are looking for 1-2 graduate students to join the team to work on our NSERC Discovery funded alpine tundra methane cycling project, with fieldwork in Northern BC and Yukon. Prospective Graduate Students

Information about the graduate programs (M.Sc., Ph.D.) can be found here. The Geography Department typically requires students hold an M.Sc. degree before starting a Ph.D. program. Our M.Sc. degrees are 2 years long and our Ph.D. degrees are typically completed in 4-5 years.

Admissions Timeline: The deadline for M.Sc. applications is typically around December 15th while the deadline for Ph.D. applications is around January 10th. Please check the department website for up-to-date deadlines. If you are interested in applying, please reach out to Dr. Kuhn 3-12 months before the applications deadline. The earlier the better!

Prospective Undergraduate Students

We also happily welcome emails from UBC undergraduate students interested in joining the lab. Lab opportunities can include honours thesis projects through the Geography Department or Work Learn positions. We will also be looking to hire undergraduate field assistants for the 2026 field season. If you are an undergraduate at UBC and you are interested in working the lab and finding out more about upcoming positions, please email Dr. Kuhn at mckenzie.kuhn@ubc.ca. Note that prior lab or field experience is not required.
