We are located in the Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia in beautiful Vancouver, BC.

Current Positions!

We are currently looking to fill 2-3 graduate student positions for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle to work on 2 projects. We are looking for 1-2 graduate students (Msc or PhD) to join the team to work on our NSERC Discovery funded alpine tundra methane cycling project, with fieldwork in Northern BC and Yukon. We are looking for 1 Msc or PhD student to help with a collaborative lake monitoring project focusing on the impacts of warming on oxygen and carbon cycling dynamics in northern glacial lakes. Both projects focus on field data collections with opportunities for laboraotory work including growth chamber experiments. Prospective Graduate Students

Information about the graduate programs (M.Sc., Ph.D.) can be found here. The Geography Department typically requires students hold an M.Sc. degree before starting a Ph.D. program. Our M.Sc. degrees are 2 years long and our Ph.D. degrees are typically completed in 4-5 years.

Admissions Timeline: The deadline for M.Sc. applications is typically around December 15th while the deadline for Ph.D. applications is around January 10th. Please check the department website for up-to-date deadlines. If you are interested in applying, please reach out to Dr. Kuhn 3-12 months before the applications deadline. The earlier the better!

Prospective Undergraduate Students

We also happily welcome emails from UBC undergraduate students interested in joining the lab. Lab opportunities can include honours thesis/Direct Studies projects through the Geography Department or Work Learn positions. We will also be looking to hire undergraduate field assistants for the 2026 field season.
